Leeds United star opens up on what life is like on the comeback trail

Life as an injured professional footballer cannot be much fun.

Day after day of recovery work, much of it being cooped up inside whilst your teammates are out training and playing.

Now, imagine doing all that work done and all that rehab completed only to see a return date thrown up in the air.

That's the unique predicament that the coronavirus outbreak has had on players hoping to return from the treatment table.

Adam Forshaw is in exactly that position and after six months on injury hell, only now can he begin to start targeting a comeback.

Forshaw, 28, suffered an injury between his hip and groin during last pre-season but it was only after a game against Charlton in September 2019 that the problem worsened.

Forshaw was sent to the United States for surgery earlier in the year and now the United midfielder has opened up on what life has been like on the comeback trail.

He told the official club website : “I’m seven weeks since the operation, which was a success, and everything is going well.

"I feel good, I’m on track so far and the plan was always to be ready for the start of next season.

“The support everyone in the medical team has given me has been brilliant, they’ve stuck by me in what has been a terrible season for me in terms of injuries, they really have all been great.

“Obviously it is their job and protocol, but they genuinely do care and want the best for me.

"They’ve helped me so much and hopefully I can get back as soon as possible.

“There’s been a good atmosphere at Thorp Arch throughout the season and it has been nice for me to still be a part of it, having breakfast with the lads, being in the gym and treatment room with them and going to as many games as possible too.”

Whilst being unable to put a timeframe on his return, Forshaw admits he is making good progress.

"I’m due to be off the crutches shortly and then it will be a case of building strength up," he added.

“I’m looking forward to pushing on from here and enjoying my football again.”
