Leeds United squad lead emotional tributes to Rob Burrow ahead of fundraiser

The rugby league community will come together at Headingley Stadium this afternoon for an emotional day in honour of Leeds Rhinos legend Rob Burrow - and a whole bunch of Leeds United stars have also sent their best wishes.

Burrow, 37, was recently diagnosed with motor neurone disease, a debilitating condition with no known cure.

A heartwrenching interview with BBC Sport saw Burrow break down in tears, with former teammate and close friend Kevin Sinfield having to step in to console him.

Sinfield will be among more than 20,000 people at Headingley Stadium today though for what is sure to be a highly emotional afternoon.

The Rhinos are playing Bradford Bulls in what was initially planned as a testimonial match for another club legend, Jamie Jones-Buchanan. Now though, it will also act as a fundraiser for Burrow and his family, to help pay for all the treatment and care that he will need in the coming years.

Fans have pledged more than £250,000 already and hundreds more are taking part in challenges today to raise more cash.

The Leeds United squad have filmed a video at the club's Thorp Arch training base, with a number of first-team stars sending messages of support to the Rhinos hero.

"Stay strong Rob, and good luck for the weekend," says Tyler Roberts.

"Have a great day on Sunday, we're all behind you," says Adam Forshaw.

The most poignant message was left to skipper Liam Cooper though.

"Just want to wish you all the best mate on your final run out on Sunday with the boys," he says.

"I've watched you for many years. An unbelievable player and an unbelievable person. Just want to wish you all the best and we're all with you mate. Take care."

Sky Sports will be showing the game live from 3pm onwards.
