Leeds United set to make double signing; Aston Villa and West Bromwich Albion go head-to-head for Newcastle United star; Sheffield Wednesday to offload striker

Here is the latest gossip from the Championship.

Leeds close in on double swoop

Football Insider claim that Leeds United are set to seal a double signing ahead of the summer.

Reading midfielder John Swift is a target of the Whites, regardless of if they win promotion or not, and Marcelo Bielsa has been given clearance to make an offer for him.

Motherwell's 16-year-old Stuart McKinstry is also closing in on a move after the clubs agreed a deal for the winger.

Why Birmingham City should be praying for an Aston Villa win - although Leeds United should be cheering on the Blues

Hayden determined for move

Isaac Hayden has told Newcastle United's programme that he still wants a summer transfer in order to move closer to his daughter, in news that will put Aston Villa and West Brom on alert.

"She's a one-year-old who's used to doing five-hour journeys," he said. "Most one-year-olds would be kicking and screaming not happy at all.

"But she's used to doing it. I'm sitting here looking at her thinking this isn't fair on you anymore."

Hayden then opened the door for a move in the coming months, adding: "I think I've made it very clear to the club's hierarchy and the fans.

"I've got my side of the story out - I've made it pretty clear how things go. I don't think there'll be many questions.

"I don't think summer's going to be an issue. It's pretty well documented how I feel. But it won't change my mentality.

"When I wasn't playing, when I got sent off, when I was playing, when I was in the stands, it didn't change my mentality of training hard and doing the correct things and it never will.

"That won't change, even if I didn't play another game or kick another ball for Newcastle. That's just how I am."

Bruce ready to offload striker

Birmingham Live report that Sheffield Wednesday boss Steve Bruce has told Portuguese forward Lucas Joao he can leave in the summer.

In what would be a surprise departure, Bruce is ready to sell the Owls' second highest scorer for around £8m.

He has recently been sidelined through injury.
