Leeds United sent Phillipe Coutinho warning ahead of Aston Villa clash

Michael Owen has warned Leeds United about the threat Philippe Coutinho poses ahead of the fixture against Aston Villa on Thursday night.

The Whites will be looking to bounce back from Saturday's 1-0 defeat at Leicester City. Harvey Barnes' second-half strike proved to be the difference in Jesse Marsch's first game in charge.

However, it was a positive performance from Leeds, who created lots of opportunities and were unfortunate not to get anything from the game, with Raphinha, Daniel James and Rodrigo all missing glorious chances.

Nevertheless, the result leaves Leeds in 16th, just two points above the relegation zone going into the clash against Steven Gerrard's side at Elland Road.

It's poised to be an important game at the wrong end of the Premier League and Owen believes that Villa will come out on top, with Coutinho set to shine once again.

"Leeds played well against Leicester and had plenty of chances," he said, as per Birmingham Live.

"Jesse Marsch must have been happy with what he saw, but they’ve got to take their chances.

"The pressure is really on Leeds, they need to pick up points soon.

"I thought some of Villa’s football against Southampton was brilliant and Coutinho was the star man.

"He was so dangerous throughout, and Villa could have scored more than the four they did. I expect to see goals at Elland Road, but I think Villa will win it 2-1."

The two sides drew 3-3 in the reverse fixture in February, as James' brace wasn't enough to take away the win. Diego Llorente scored the other for the Whites.
