Paul Robinson has warned Leeds United to spend sensibly now they are in the Premier League.
The Whites' promotion was confirmed due to West Bromwich Albion's defeat to Huddersfield Town, ending a 16-year stint outside the top flight.
Robinson immediately identified loanees Ben White and Jack Harrison as key targets to secure for the Whites first season back in the Premier League.
Yet the former Leeds keeper told Sky Sports that the club should not spend excessively in the market, either, pointing to Aston Villa's struggles this season as something to avoid.
He said: "Consolidation is the right word. Now they have to stay in the Premier League.
"Spending has to be very sensible, it has to be geared to keeping the club in the Premier League, now after so long, they’ve finally got back there.
"They have a player, Ben White, on loan from Brighton this year, who has been, in my opinion, player of the season. Him and Jack Harrison, those two would be key, if they can possibly retain them.
"Brighton have gone on the record to say they don’t want Ben White to leave and quite rightly so, I suspect he’ll have bigger and better potential suitors, maybe even Champions League football, as he’s such a good player.
"They have to sign very sensible and gear for the Premier League. The Championship team that gets you promoted can’t always keep you in the Premier League.
"Look at Norwich this season, no disrespect to the players that they’ve got, you need a team to get you promoted but have to reinforce that team and bolster the squad to stay in the Premier League.
"You have to bolster it sensibly. You look at Aston Villa, who’ve spent an awful lot of money to stay in the Premier League, they’re holding on by their bootlaces to stay in the Premier League.
"You’ve got to have a budget, you’ve got to spend it correctly and wisely.
"Leeds United, with Bielsa at the helm, are a different animal in the transfer market. He attracts top players as he’s a top manager."
