Leeds United scout in among European giants at Champions League clash

Leeds United had an official in attendance at Benfica's Champions League clash with RB Leipzig at the Estadio Sport Lisboa e Benfica last night, it has been revealed.

With Europe's top club competition resuming for another season, it is often a time when scouts from clubs all over the world descend on venues where some of the world's biggest talents are showcasing their qualities.

But whilst officials from footballing giants such as Bayern Munich, Juventus, Liverpool and Manchester United were watching on, Leeds were the only Championship club to have an official in attendance, a tweet from Portuguese journalist Bruno Andrade with a photograph of the official scouts list has confirmed.

There is no suggestion of which individual player or players that Leeds were in attendance to keep an eye on, but the Whites were the only Championship side present for the Group G clash, but it does go to show the depth of the scouting department that Victor Orta has built up since his 2017 arrival.

Last night's clash between Benfica and Leipzig ended 2-1 in the visitors' favour, with a double from Germany international Timo Werner sealing a winning start to the Bundesliga leaders' Champions League campaign.
