Leeds United's worrying recent West Ham record that must improve this weekend

Leeds United will have to overcome a poor recent record against West Ham United if they are to pick up their first Premier League win of the season on Saturday.

The Whites were beaten in both games against David Moyes' side last term and haven't claimed all three points in the fixture since February 2005.

This run has culminated with two meetings in the Championship before the double-header in 2020/21, where West Ham came out on top courtesy of a 2-1 and a 2-0 win.

They drew both matches in the 2011/12 season as the Hammers made a swift return to the top tier, whilst Leeds were battling for mid-table mediocity at the time.

But it was the most recent clash which would've frustrated Leeds fans the most as they created a number of excellent opportunities to score, but were punished with goals from Jesse Lingard and Craig Dawson back in March.

The game at Elland Road, though, finished with the same outcome as Moyes' side nulified the Whites' threat to earn a precious win on the road.

Mateusz Klich did give Marcelo Bielsa's men an early lead from the spot, but Tomas Soucek and Angelo Ogbonna struck to turn the match on its head.

The Hammers will be hoping to do the same this weekend, whilst Leeds can end a 16-year wait for a victory against the east London outfit.

Whilst this is the aim, the Whites' task of doing so became a little bit trickier when Bielsa confirmed that Patrick Bamford will miss the game through injury.

The England international scored 17 goals last season and has been an important member of the Leeds side since promotion to the top-flight last summer.

He also created Raphinha's goal in the 1-1 draw at Newcastle United a week ago which was just the Whites' third point of the campaign following draws against Everton and Burnley.

It's a game Leeds arguably need to get a result out of if they want to start climbing up the league table, but West Ham's run of just one defeat in their first seven poses them with a tough test.
