Leeds United's unpredictability laid bare by new stats

Leeds United’s are one of the most diffcult teams in the Premier League to forecast.

That is a key take-away from the latest supporter survey ran by LeedsLive.

Over 3,000 Leeds fans attempted to predict the club's five February matches and the voting was split for most of them.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side have been almost impossible to predict throughout the season, with recent results perhaps a clear indicator of that.

Leeds produced a superb performance last month to defeat West Ham United 3-2 at the London Stadium, yet just a week later they were defeated 1-0 by a Newcastle United side who had won just once prior to that fixture.

Exactly 3,474 supporters took part in the prediction survey, before the month kicked off with a trip to Steven Gerrard’s Aston Villa.

52.6% correctly forecast a draw at Villa Park, which ended with Leeds earning a valuable point in a 3-3 thriller.

But Leeds’ fluctuating performances were highlighted in their following fixture at Everton just three days later.

Bielsa’s men were comfortably dispatched 3-0 by an Everton side who had won just once in 15 matches before the meeting – a result only 17.6% saw coming.

This Sunday’s clash with rivals Manchester United has almost completely split supporters’, despite previous results between the two sides pointing to an away win.

27.8% of fans believe Leeds will win, 33.9% are predicting defeat and the remaining 38.4% think nothing will split the sides.

Perhaps, and for good reason, the most resounding set of predictions from the month of February comes in the trip to Liverpool.

Only 5.5% of fans are optimistic enough to predict Leeds leaving Anfield with a win, while 78.8% can only see the three points staying with Liverpool.

The month concludes with another very difficult match on paper as Antonio Conte’s Tottenham Hotspur side head to Elland Road.

Despite the fact they are pushing for a top four finish and Leeds are fighting to stay in the league, the fanbase are again almost completely split - 38.8% of fans think the Whites will win, in comparison to just 22.8% envisaging a loss. The remaining 38.4% believe it will end all square.
