Leeds United's touching Thorp Arch tribute to Queen Elizabeth II

Leeds United have held a moment of silence to honour the life of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II after her death yesterday afternoon at Balmoral.

The club's fixture on Monday evening against Nottingham Forest at Elland Road has been called off by the Premier League to pay respect to the life of Queen Elizabeth II, which they explained in a statement released this morning. Part of the statement said:

"At a meeting this morning, Premier League clubs paid tribute to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

"To honour her extraordinary life and contribution to the nation, and as a mark of respect, this weekend’s Premier League match round will be postponed, including Monday evening’s game."

In a tweet posted by the club on Friday morning, they said: "#LUFC gathered for a moment of silence and reflection to honour the incredible life and devoted service of Her Majesty The Queen, Elizabeth II" along with a 32-second video showing both players and staff from the club gathered around the centre-circle at Thorp Arch.

Leeds could face up to a month-long gap between fixtures if their match against Manchester United next week is postponed because of the international break that follows next week's round of games.
