Leeds United's timely good luck charm against bogey team Brentford

Leeds United famously preserved their Premier League status with a 2-1 win over Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium on the final day of last season.

However, the Whites' recent record against the Bees has been far from glorious. Two defeats, and two draws, including a 5-2 loss in the reverse fixture earlier this season, in their last five meetings, prove that Brentford are a very tough nut to crack.

Nonetheless, the return of Patrick Bamford has heralded three goals in two games, and he will also have an extra incentive to collect all three points when Brentford travel to Elland Road on the weekend.

The 29-year-old has won five of his 12 meetings against the Bees, and has only won more games against Bolton Wanderers (six) during his professional career.

Bamford could equal that tally on Sunday, as he aims to continue his remarkable return to action, after being plagued by injury during the last 18 months.

In total, Bamford has registered five wins, four draws, and just three defeats against the Bees. He has also notched two goals and one assist in the process.

His first clash against Brentford came in the form of a 2-0 victory for MK Dons at the Stadium MK in 2013. But his most successful season against the Bees was during the 2014-15 season, as Middlesbrough won all four of their meetings.

Bamford scored in Boro's 4-0 home triumph early in the season, and won a penalty for Grant Leadbitter's winning spot-kick in a narrow 1-0 win in January 2015.

Both sides then met in the play-off semi-finals as Fernando Amorebieta's 93rd minute winner saw Boro prevail 2-1 at Griffin Park. Boro cruised to a 3-0 triumph in the second leg at the Riverside Stadium, although Bamford was not called upon from the bench on that occasion.

He scored a dramatic 95th minute equaliser to inspire Leeds to a 2-2 draw at Elland Road last season, before missing the final day win in the capital due to injury.
