Leeds United's Stuart Dallas earns Northern Ireland call-up for World Cup qualifiers

Stuart Dallas has been called up to the Northern Ireland squad for their upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Lithuania and Italy.

It will give the Leeds United midfielder the opportunity to earn his 59th and 60th caps during the next couple of weeks.

Unfortunately for Northern Ireland, they no longer have the chance to qualify for next year’s finals as they have picked up just five points from six games.

That leaves Ian Baraclough’s side second bottom of Group C behind Italy, Switzerland and Bulgaria but still ahead of Lithuania.

As for Dallas, he returned to international action last month after withdrawing from the September camp due to personal reasons.

The 30-year-old started in the defeat to Switzerland before being brought on from the bench with 20 minutes left against Bulgaria.

Despite not having a chance to make the World Cup, Northern Ireland will be hoping to get two positive results in both upcoming matches.

Firstly, Northern Ireland will be expecting to beat Lithuania, a team they thrashed 4-1 in the reverse fixture. There will also be revenge on the mind after their last meeting with Italy.

Goals from Domenico Berardi and Ciro Immobile were enough to see off Northern Ireland last time out against Italy.

If Dallas plays in both matches, he will become the 22nd most capped player in his nation’s history, overtaking Iain Dowie and Terry Neill who both earned 59.
