Huddersfield Town might well have scored an own goal with their new shirt sponsor.
Leeds United’s Championship rivals announced their new commercial deal with Paddy Power earlier this morning and the bookmaker then proceeded to mock the Yorkshire club - who were relegated from the Premier League last season.
Paddy Power has a reputation for close-to-the-bone humour but Town fans will have been a little surprised to see the company joking about their new partner.
In the video, which is clearly staged, a marketing team discuss their deal to sponsor a football club. Before Huddersfield Town is town is revealed staff take guesses at which side Paddy Power will be sponsoring.
Manchester City, Liverpool and other big-hitters from the English game are guessed.
A member of the team says: “It is none of those clubs. So, you need to lower the expectations a little bit.”
After more guesses, the same person calls an end to the guesswork and announces: “This is going to take all day. I’ll just put you out of your misery.
“We are sponsoring Huddersfield Town. So...Yeah.
“Look, it is all we’ve got left in the budget. It is done now and we just need to think of something to support it. So, let’s come up with a few ideas.”
The marketing team fall silent and then struggle to think of anything famous from Huddersfield.
Eventually, they think of Sir Patrick Stewart from Star Trek, who is from Huddersfield, but think he was in Star Wars. They then proceed to do impressions of the latter’s famous character Chewbacca.

It is fair to some Town fans have not reacted well to the promo and as you'd expect rival fans have found it hilarious.
