Leeds United's returning loanees and fringe options among those pictured on pre-season day one

Pre-season is underway for Leeds United as a large contingent descended upon Leeds Beckett University for their opening day set of tests with the sports scientists and backroom team. Using the university’s Carnegie School of Sport and pitches, the majority of those players who had no international duties in the summer were spotted.

There have been no massive surprises in the names spotted across the various pictures released from the first day, but certainly some reminders of those players who have been away and come back. Ian Poveda, Leif Davis and Cody Drameh were all pictured in the new training gear on the first day back.

All three spent part of last season on loan in the Championship and there is every chance they are sent out again for more match minutes, but they will stay and compete for places right now. Meanwhile, Archie Gray, the 16-year-old prodigy, also remains a part of the senior squad based on the pictures released.

Crysencio Summerville, one of the two injury doubts we were waiting for updates on, was also pictured, though Adam Forshaw, recently seen at Thorp Arch welcoming Marc Roca, has not been spotted as yet. Roca, as expected, was there on day one.

Stuart Dallas and Luke Ayling, the two injured players we did know would be missing the start of the season, still reported to the university on Monday morning. The experienced pair took part in the tests they were able to complete without harming their injury issues.

There have been several names not seen in the pictures which did not feature for their countries after last season. Kiko Casilla, Stuart McKinstry, Mateusz Bogusz (tore an anterior cruciate ligament in January), Elia Caprile (leaving for Bari imminently) and Kun Temenuzhkov are yet to appear in any of the media released.

Aside from that, everyone yet to be spotted was expected to be away after their international matches, including Liam Cooper, Raphinha, Diego Llorente, Daniel James, Kalvin Phillips and Mateusz Klich.
