Leeds United winger Raphinha has opened up on playing alongside Paris Saint-Germain superstar Neymar after they started together for Brazil for the first time.
The two players did not take long to link up, though, as Neymar was involved in both of Raphinha’s goals, in what was the Leeds man’s full international debut.
Raphinha netted his first of the night after just 18 minutes, when he reacted first to the former Barcelona winger’s deflected effort to tap in from close range.
The pair then both showed their quality for Raphinha’s second goal, when Neymar provided a perfectly weighted through ball for the 24-year-old to latch onto.
On just his third Selecao appearance, Raphinha did not have to break stride as he took one touch to set himself, before firing an unstoppable effort across Fernando Muslera into the bottom corner.
Speaking in his post-match interview, via Globo Esporte, following their impressive 4-1 victory over Uruguay, Raphinha discussed the enjoyment he feels playing alongside a player he has looked up to for several years, as well as his pride at scoring for his country.
He said: "Playing with Ney is very easy. I'm a big fan. I'm very inspired by him, in his way of playing, in his way of attacking his opponent. I see many videos of him. To be playing with him is a dream come true.
"I don't think there is any way to explain the happiness I am feeling, this match with the goals and the victory couldn't be more remarkable for me.
“I am fulfilling a childhood dream, not only of wearing the jersey of the Selecao, but also of representing the Selecao. Being able to help with goals is very gratifying.”
Raphinha will next get to play alongside football’s most expensive player next month when Brazil face tests against both Colombia and Argentina.
