Leeds United's pursuit of Man Utd's Daniel James takes twist amid target's 'failed medical' as new name enters frame

Leeds United are reportedly ready to step up their interest in Leicester City winger Demarai Gray - a move which could end speculation about Wales international Daniel James joining them.

The Whites are set to reassess their transfer plans ahead of the summer deadline following the news that a move for Bayern midfielder Michael Cuisance has collapsed.

Reports have claimed that the Frenchman failed his medical ahead of the proposed £18m move, and Leeds are now set to draw up other targets.

According to the Daily Telegraph, Marcelo Bielsa remains in the market for a central midfielder, as well as a winger before the close of the current window, and could well step up interest in Gray, who started just three games under Brendan Rodgers last season.

It remains to be seen what effect their interest in the 24-year old will have on any potential move for James, who has been heavily linked with a move to Elland Road in recent weeks after slipping down the pecking order under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The Welshman is believed to be keen on staying at Old Trafford, while the Red Devils themselves have offered little indication of being open to a deal.

Leeds could subsequently turn to Gray, who will reportedly be allowed to leave the King Power Stadium should the right offer come in.

It's believed the Whites fit the bill in that regard and, with one year left on his contract, he could come at a suitable price, with the Foxes likely to be eager to avoid the possibility of the winger leaving for nothing at the end of the season.
