Leeds United's Premier League clash against Southampton could be postponed

Leeds United's Premier League clash against Southampton scheduled for a week on Wednesday could be rescheduled, it is claimed.

The Whites are due to tackle Brighton in the top-flight this weekend before playing host to Ralph Hasenhuttl's high-flying Saints a few days later.

However, further changes to the schedule could be on the cards as the Football Association tries to fit in the Saints' postponed FA Cup third-round clash.

Southampton were due to face Shrewsbury Town at the weekend but a coronavirus outbreak at the League One side left them without enough players to fulfil the tie.

The FA warned prior to the start of the competition that teams could be removed from the competition in the event of a fixture not being played but Shrewsbury are keen to have their opportunity.

With the fixture schedule tight, there are few options for the match to be rearranged - particularly as the game would have to take place before the fourth round later this month.

The Telegraph reports that one option being considered is postponed the Leeds vs Southampton clash, with the Saints then tackling Shrewsbury instead.

Neither Leeds or Southampton are involved in European competition, meaning there is room on the schedule for the fixture to be rearranged.

The FA’s Professional Game Board was due to meet this week to determine Shrewsbury’s fate, with postponing Southampton’s Premier League game at Leeds among the options.
