Leeds United's Patrick Bamford responds to Man City defender Kyle Walker's basketball comparison

Patrick Bamford says Kyle Walker's comparison of Leeds United's game to basketball is flattering.

Walker played the full 90 minutes in Manchester City's draw with Leeds earlier this month and said that it was one of the strangest games he has played in due to the Whites' man-to-man style.

Speaking to LUTV, Bamford was asked if he was more suited to playing in the Premier League than the Championship.

The striker agreed and said that Premier League games have their own distinct style.

Yet he argued the Whites are going against the grain with the way they approach matches.

He said: "I think, in the Championship, no disrespect to the defenders as all of them give you a hard game and want to win every ball, every ball is a fight.

"It's a physical battle the whole time.

"In the Premier League you get defenders who think 'you know what, I'm not going to win that ball, it's safer for me to just stay in position and let him keep possession'.

"I think most games you'll see in the Premier League, one team has the ball and the other drops off and keeps their shape, so it goes back and forth like that.

"Our games are more like basketball if you like, everyone's gameplan goes out the window as we pull them everywhere.

"I actually listened to Kyle Walker talking to Andros Townsend on a podcast and he said it was like basketball. It's kind of flattering when you think of it like that.

"It's bonkers but it's so entertaining. I imagine as a fan, even the game we lost against Liverpool was such a good watch.

"As weird as it sounds, I bet fans don't mind losing when we go out that way."
