Leeds United's 'minerals' praised ahead of Elland Road's Premier League opener against Fulham

Leeds United have been praised for the 'minerals' they showed against Liverpool at Anfield last weekend.

Marcelo Bielsa's side went toe-to-toe with the Premier League champions in a breathless 4-3 epic to get their first top flight campaign for 16 years started and former England international Joe Cole has joined the chorus of pundits praising the Whites and Bielsa.

"This exotic foreign manager has come in in Yorkshire and he's taken this club, like Klopp did and the way they played, with the minerals they went to Anfield and put it on them it was amazing," Cole said on BT Sport.

"I think they're going to be one of the most exciting outfits. I think they're going to win a lot of games, I think they'll be a few slappings in there as well."

Former Liverpool and Chelsea man Cole also believes the city of Leeds will be 'buzzing' as he reflected on the Whites sides he faced as a player.

"I remember as a young player, playing against Leeds and it was the most exciting side maybe even in Europe. Hoovering up all of the best young players in the country. It was a destination.

"Then financially they made a few mistakes. Things weren't happening and they seemed to be in the doldrums for so long. But now they're back and with what a manager and what an exciting way of playing. The city must be buzzing. I for one see them as a welcome addition to the Premier League, I'm excited to see them."

Cole's take on Bielsa was echoed by his fellow BT Sport pundit Owen Hargreaves.

"He's perfect for there. Like Jurgen Klopp was perfect for Liverpool. And if anybody had any doubts about Leeds coming up and if they were going to play the same way, well after that first performance at Anfield I think he blew everybody away.

"The style that they played was the same. They went after Liverpool. There's not many managers in the world of football that can come up from the Championship and the top managers in this country all want to pick their brain.

"He is a true genius and I'm looking forward to seeing them play every week."
