Leeds United's Kalvin Phillips reveals first thing on his mind after England's historic win

Kalvin Phillips' first act upon reaching the dressing room following yet another clean sheet and another win in England colours was to pay tribute to his late grandmother.

Granny Val - synonymous with Leeds United's Amazon documentary 'Take Us Home' - sadly passed away earlier this year, a woman who had a profound impact on the Kalvin Phillips who pulls on a white shirt for England and Leeds United.

Phillips revealed he played with 'Granny Val' printed onto his boots as England toiled, but ultimately defeated Germany by two goals to nil at Wembley Stadium.

The 25-year-old shared an image of his boots post-match, with the name of his late grandmother tastefully adorning the side.

Phillips was applauded off the field as he made his way down the tunnel, where his thoughts must have quickly turned to the charismatic Granny Val.
The Leeds man then tweeted a trio of photos after the game, accompanied by some celebratory comments.

"Quarter finals here we come!! Unbelievably proud of this team.

"I’ve missed atmospheres like that! Next stop.. Rome."

Phillips' blossoming partnership with Declan Rice in midfield has largely kept Jordan Henderson out of the England side throughout Euro 2020.

Heading into the quarter final, Gareth Southgate will find it difficult to drop either Rice or Phillips, meaning England's No. 14 is likely to continue in his role as a pivotal member throughout this campaign.
