Leeds United's Kalvin Phillips placed in 'world class' bracket of defensive midfielders

Kalvin Phillips has already made it clear that he would like to extend his stay at Leeds United providing they remain in the Premier League this season. But ahead of the summer, it's clear his talent is turning heads away from Elland Road.

The likes of Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, Aston Villa and West Ham are thought to be keen. If worst comes to worst and Leeds are forced into selling him, it is likely they would command a club record transfer fee.

A recent survey run by LeedsLive, 50.1% of 1300 voters think his value lies in the region of £70m and £100m. That would undoubtedly put him in the top bracket of central defensive midfielders in world football according to Transfermarkt, only Bayern Munich’s Joshua Kimmich is valued in that region at £76.5 million.

However, the next most popular fan valuation of Phillips is £50m to £70m, with 32.4% of supporters believing that is where a realistic values lies. With figures again taken from Transfermarkt, Declan Rice, Rodri, Wilfred Ndidi and Fabinho are the only players in Phillips’ position in that price range.

This despite the fact West Ham manager David Moyes has already publicly stated Phillips’ England partner Rice is worth £150 million. Interestingly, 15.3% of fans believe Phillips is worth more than £100 million, which is perhaps a reflection on a boyhood Leeds supporter being pivotal to the club.

If 'priceless' was an option, no doubt a large percentage of fans would have selected that.
