Leeds United's Jean-Kevin Augustin dispute with RB Leipzig may be set for €21m decision

A decision on RB Leipzig’s legal dispute with Leeds United around millions owed for Jean-Kevin Augustin will reportedly be reached in the coming days.

Mitteldeutsche Zeitung, a regional daily newspaper in Germany, reports FIFA will reach an initial decision on where each club lies by the end of this week.

The report goes on to say the Red Bull Arena outfit ultimately hope to see €21m from the Whites because of their promotion to the Premier League with Augustin on their books.

The clubs will reportedly be informed next week of the decision made by a single judge sitting in on FIFA’s Players’ Status Committee.

However, whatever the decision in that committee, the loser in the case is sure to appeal and take the matter to the Court of Arbitration for Sport and drag the process out for several more months.

The dispute goes back to the loan agreement made between the clubs in January 2020 when the French striker moved on an initial deal until the end of the season.

It is understood the loan included an obligation for the Whites to buy Augustin if they won promotion to the Premier League.

The dispute lies in the dates on the paperwork. Leipzig argue the promotion, whenever it was clinched, means Leeds should pay for the striker.

United argue the deal ended, along with any obligation to buy, on June 30, three weeks before promotion was confirmed to the top flight.
