Leeds United's Jack Harrison urged to stay at Elland Road amid renewed Newcastle United interest

Former Everton forward Kevin Campbell believes Leeds United's Jack Harrison should reject any advances from Newcastle United in favour of remaining at Elland Road.

The 26-year-old was heavily linked with a move to St James' Park in the summer but no move for the Leeds wideman emerged.

Having lost Kalvin Phillips and Raphinha to Manchester City and Barcelona respectively in the summer, Leeds were unwilling to lose another one of their key players for the upcoming season.

And while he has not been at his best this term, the winger is undoubtedly one of the Whites best players.

With the January transfer window in-bound, and Newcastle keen to strengthen their attacking options for their unlikely top four Champions League push, rumours have resurfaced linking Harrison again with a move to Tyneside.

However, Campbell reckons Harrison should stay put, and sign a new deal at Elland Road due to the potential lack of first team opportunities he may receive at St James'.

"Being involved in a top-four chase and not playing isn’t good," Campbell told Football Insider.

"That’s the issue. Newcastle United are going well without him. There’s nothing to say he will walk into that team if he joins Newcastle. There’s no guarantee.

"At Leeds he will start. Nothing beats playing football and starting games every week. I’m not surprised he is talking to Leeds about a new contract. It’s the right thing to do. If a team comes in to make him a starter, then it’s a different discussion. He’s not going to get that at Newcastle."
