Leeds United's injury crisis deepens ahead of Newcastle United clash with more setbacks

Leeds United's injury crisis has worsened ahead of the upcoming clash with Newcastle United.

Marcelo Bielsa's side moved nine points clear of the relegation zone with a vital 3-2 victory over West Ham on Sunday afternoon.

Jack Harrison's hat-trick secured all three points for the depleted visitors, with injuries leading the Whites to name seven teenagers on the bench.

Leeds were forced into an early tactical reshuffle at the London Stadium with both Adam Forshaw and Junior Firpo being forced off before the half-hour mark with hamstring injuries.

Bielsa could only confirm both players had sustained 'muscular injuries' in his post-match interview, with the full-back and central midfielder likely to miss next weekend's encounter with the Magpies.

Forshaw had impressed in recent matches following a return from a lengthy lay-off, but the 30-year-old is now facing another spell on the sidelines.

Leeds could also be forced into a defensive rethink with the setback to Firpo, having allowed prospect Cody Drameh to join Cardiff City on loan.

England international striker Patrick Bamford could be in line to feature against Newcastle, but Bielsa confirmed Jamie Shackleton and Tyler Roberts are more likely to return to fitness in time for next weekend's clash.
