Leeds United's impressive 2019 clean sheet record and it compares to their promotion rivals

Whilst Leeds United are struggling to score goals at one end of the pitch, they are having very little difficulty in keeping them out at the other end.

So far this season, Marcelo Bielsa's side have been nothing short of outstanding in their defensive work, with them currently boasting the tightest defence in the Championship, conceding just eight goals in their first 14 matches, recording seven clean sheets.

But whilst Leeds' defence are lapping up plenty of plaudits, they have struggled of late in the attacking department. Despite the Whites only being outside of the automatic promotion places on goal-difference, meaning they are right in the middle of the promotion shake-up, they have now failed to score more than one goal in their last seven games.

In a defensive sense, though, Leeds have been rock solid, proving that they have the ability to win those challenging, gritty games that the Championship can so often produce by one-goal-to-nil.

And it isn't just this season that Bielsa has managed to have his defence in order, with his team having registered 14 Championship clean-sheets in 2019 - a return that can only be bettered by Sheffield Wednesday, who have registered 16 Championship shut-outs this calendar year.

Here is a full breakdown of how many clean sheets have been recorded by Championship clubs in 2019, including those who were promoted and relegated from the Championship in 2018/19 and the current 24 sides that make up the division, and how United's tally compares with the rest of the division...
