Leeds United’s expected XI for Aston Villa clash with Gjanni Alioski and Kemar Roofe sidelined

Marcelo Bielsa will be left pondering his upcoming team selection after back-to-back defeats for Leeds United over the Easter weekend.

Disappointing results against Wigan Athletic and Brentford, combined with Sheffield United's win over Ipswich have ended any hopes of automatic promotion.

The Whites, instead, look consigned to the play-offs and if they’re to stand any chance of ending a 15-year wait for Premier League football they will need to address their worrying slump.

Sunday’s opponents, Aston Villa, will also be hoping for play-off success themselves and this match could prove an audition for the Wembley showpiece at the end of May.

Both sides will be without their top scorers, with Kemar Roofe and Tammy Abraham ruled out through injury.

Bielsa confirmed in his Friday press conference that the 14-goal forward would miss this weekend's game but should return to play a part in the end-of-season promotion lottery.

With Gjanni Alioski ruled out until the end of the season with a torn meniscus, Leeds will be forced into at least one alteration this weekend.

Barry Douglas and Leif Davis, the Whites’ other two left-back options, are also missing with knee complaints. Douglas won’t appear again this campaign after rupturing his medial ligament, ruling him out for two to three months.

As a result, Stuart Dallas looks set to come into the side, having replaced the Alioski at Griffin Park on Monday.

Many will be intrigued to see if Kalvin Phillips will earn a recall to the side after being replaced by Adam Forshaw against Brentford, whilst Patrick Bamford will once again lead the line, with Roofe out of contention.

Bielsa could even opt to field both, with Mateusz Klich or Tyler Roberts making way, although the Argentine boss is not renowned for making wholesale changes.

Both sides will line-up in their usual 4-1-4-1 set-up, with the midfield battle set to play a key role in deciding the winner.

While there are calls from many fans to blood a number of youngsters in the final two games following Sheffield United's win over Ipswich, the under-23s have a PDL play-off clash against Coventry City on Monday, so Bielsa is unlikely to change things around.

Expected XI

Expected bench: Peacock-Farrell; Shackleton, Berardi, Phillips, Clarke, Gotts, Brown
