Leeds United's classy pre-match gesture as Liam Cooper leads out virtual mascot

As the ongoing coronavirus pandemic continues to lock Leeds United fans out of Elland Road, the club have moved to give one brave young fan a matchday experience he will never forget.

No supporters have been present at Elland Road since March, which has also meant no young fans have been able to act as mascots for Marcelo Bielsa's side.

But ahead of the Whites' Premier League clash against Arsenal, Leeds used an innovative solution to give Elliot Metcalfe, a young supporter who is undergoing a brave fight against cancer, the chance to virtually walk out with his heroes.

Leeds skipper Liam Cooper emerged from the tunnel carrying an iPad which allowed Elliot to join the team via a video call and make his way out onto the pitch.

Elliot and his family were shown on the big screen at Elland Road, with Cooper's Leeds team-mates all giving the young fan a wave ahead of the clash against the Gunners.

The Make A Wish foundation helped to make this touching tribute possible and fans were quick praise the club for this touching tribute on social media.

Leeds are looking to get back to winning ways against the Gunners and a win would see them overtake Mikel Arteta's side in the Premier League table.
