Leeds United's Championship rivals West Brom won't have fixture congestion but confidence hit again

West Bromwich Albion have exited the FA Cup after losing to Premier League side Newcastle United.

The Baggies are Leeds United’s direct rivals to lift the Championship title at the end of this season and the defeat now means that Slaven Bilic’s side can now turn their full attentions onto their aims to get promoted this summer.

Miguel Almiron netted twice for Steve Bruce’s side in the first half as West Brom were beaten 3-2 at The Hawthorns.

January arrival Valentino Lazaro gave the Magpies an early three-goal cushion in the West Midlands shortly after the restart, with West Brom scoring twice in the final 20 minutes of the game through Matt Phillips and Kenneth Zohore.

For West Brom, they have now suffered back-to-back defeats in all competitions for the first time this season, dipping their confidence ahead of the final 10 league games of the season.

The Baggies will look to return to winning ways and maintain their one-point lead at the top of the Championship table when they take on Swansea City away from home this weekend.

If they drop points this weekend, Leeds can go top of the league standings if they beat Huddersfield Town at Elland Road.
