Leeds United rumours: Todd Cantwell transfer update, Barry Douglas' Marcelo Bielsa joke

The Leeds United transfer rumour mill continues to turn.

Whilst last week's transfer deadline means the Whites are no longer able to make any more signings, there is only a short turnaround until the January window opens.

That means the Whites do not have long to wait until they are able to strengthen their squad further after a promising summer window.

With that in mind, here is the latest Leeds United transfer gossip.

Cantwell update

The Pinkun report that Todd Cantwell is set to come back into contention at Norwich City.

Cantwell has endured a difficult start to the season, sitting out matches after links to Leeds United in the summer.

Yet manager Daniel Farke says Cantwell's mindset has improved greatly over the last week and, once he overcomes a minor knock picked up in training, he will be reintegrated into the Canaries' side.

He said: "Todd was not able to sprint on Friday otherwise he would have been in my plans.

"The international break was good for him. He was able to reflect. We had a long and honest conversation about everything that has gone on and his mindset in the last week was much better.

"But we had this little setback with some bruising. He has too much quality not to play an important role for us in the next weeks."

Douglas' Bielsa joke

Blackburn Rovers boss Tony Mowbray says Barry Douglas feels he is the fittest he has ever been after working under Marcelo Bielsa.

The defender joined Blackburn on loan from Leeds on domestic deadline day and, whilst he has not played much recently, Mowbray says Douglas will be up to speed soon due to his work at Elland Road.

"Barry has real high quality really, he’s a Scotsman who has been promoted with both Wolverhampton Wanderers to the Premier League and Leeds United to the Premier League," he said.

"We’re looking forward to getting him up to speed, but we’ve shared a joke that he’s worked under Marcelo Bielsa and is the fittest he’s ever been in his life."

Celtic wanted Clarke

Football Insider report that Celtic were keen to take former Leeds star Jack Clarke on loan in the summer.

Clarke came through the Whites' academy before moving to Tottenham Hotspur in 2019, only to move back on loan to Elland Road.

Yet his second stint at Leeds was not as successful and he subsequently moved to QPR on loan in January.

Celtic expressed an interest in taking the 19-year-old on loan after missing out on him in January but Spurs elected to keep him in North London instead.
