Leeds United roll out the red carpet as supporter receives night to remember at U23s match

Leeds United gave one supporter a night to remember at Friday evening’s U23s match with Manchester City at Elland Road. Chris Garcia travelled over from Detroit, USA to watch the Young Whites in action alongside a record Premier League Two crowd, where he was able to meet the likes of Illan Meslier, Jesse Marsch and Jermaine Beckford.

Garcia had initially booked flights to go watch the first team in action against Chelsea last weekend, however that game was rescheduled due to their involvement in the FA Cup semi-finals. He was then hoping to attend the away fixture at Crystal Palace, which was originally pencilled in for Saturday, 23 April.

However, the fixture was instead moved to Monday night for Sky Sports coverage at late notice, which scuppered his plans to watch Leeds in action. But Garcia was able to play his part in making history for the Whites, as the attendance of 21,321 smashed the previous record for a U23s game of 17,525 set by Everton in May 2017.

Unfortunately for Garcia, he was not able to witness a Leeds win as a strong City side, including the likes of Cole Palmer, Kayky and Liam Delap, secured the Premier League Two Division One title with a 3-1 victory. Leeds owner Andrea Radrizzani also sent Garcia a message on Twitter to thank him for his commitment, after a seven-hour flight from Detroit, and a four hour drive from London.

He said: “You are a legend. Thank you.” Certainly a night that will live long in the memory for Garcia.
