Leeds United rivals Leicester complete double signing as Southampton braced for sales

The Championship will return in little over a month's time and Leeds United are listed among the favourites to secure promotion. Former Norwich City boss Daniel Farke is widely considered to be the frontrunner for the vacant manager position at Elland Road as the Whites await approval of their takeover.

Recently relegated Leicester City look set to make the first major move in the Championship window, with an announcement on the £10 million capture of Harry Winks expected sooner rather than later. Southampton on the other hand are braced for a number of exits, with Tino Livramento the subject of interest from both Brighton and Newcastle United.

Like most of the division so far, Middlesbrough are yet to bring in the first recruit although their transfer priorities on the pitch are now known. Watford have already sanctioned the sale of Joao Pedro, while Norwich City unveiled Borja Sainz as their fourth signing of the window already.

Below is a round-up of the transfer activity of the clubs expected to be among Leeds United's promotion rivals in the new season.

Leicester City

Harry Winks has become Leicester City's first signing of the summer, heading in the opposite direction from Tottenham following James Maddison's transfer. The former England international completed his move to the King Power Stadium for a reported £10 million fee on Saturday afternoon.

Winks' arrival was quickly followed on Saturday afternoon by Conor Coady, who has signed from Wolves on a permanent deal, for an initial fee though top be around £7.5million.

The pair were tipped to be the first of several arrivals for the Foxes as newly-appointed boss Enzo Maresca looks to reshape the relegated squad. Joel Piroe and Zack Steffen have both also been linked, with further departures also on the cards.

Middlesbrough

Michael Carrick is still awaiting his first transfer breakthrough ahead of his first full season in charge at the Riverside. Quality over quantity is said to be on the agenda, having suffered defeat in the playoff semi-finals to Coventry City last time out.

Newcastle United backup Karl Darlow is a target, while QPR's Seny Dieng and Manchester City's James Trafford have been named as potential alternatives as Boro look to bring in a new number one. Attack is another priority, with Sammy Silvera now known to be on the club's radar.

Norwich City

Chelsea confirmed on Saturday the signing of Canaries prospect Alex Matos, with the 18-year-old moving on a free transfer having not extended his contract. Norwich are also braced for the exit of Max Aarons, with the right-back entering the final year of his contract and reportedly outlining his desire to leave, with West Ham among the clubs linked.

The Canaries are said to have banked a windfall from Tottenham's capture of Maddison, with the figure in the region of £3m. Borja Sainz became the club's fourth signing of the window already, with Ashley Barnes, Shane Duffy and Jack Stacey already through the door.

Southampton

Russell Martin has warned sales of first-team stars will be on the cards following relegation, with Mislav Orsic leaving for Trabszonspor having featured for just six minutes after signing in January. Livramento is another who could leave sooner rather than later, with our sister title ChronicleLive reporting Newcastle United are in talks for the former Chelsea full-back.

Martin has been tipped to raid his former side Swansea City as he aims to build a squad capable of bouncing back to the Premier League at the first attempt. Defensive duo Ben Cabango and Nathan Wood along with Piroe are reportedly under consideration, along with left-back Ryan Manning who is now a free agent after leaving the Swans.

Watford

The Hornets were unsuccessful in their efforts to immediately return to the Premier League last time out, with Valerien Ismael now the latest manager in the hotseat at Vicarage Road. Joao Pedro has already departed, with Brighton stumping up a club-record £30 million for the versatile Brazilian attacker.

Reports suggest Watford are considering a move for former Leicester and Newcastle striker Islam Slimani. However, teenage defender Harry Amass has reportedly agreed a move to Manchester United, with a compensation figure yet to be determined for the 16-year-old.
