Leeds United receive transfer update as Arsenal stance on Emi Buendia made clear

Leeds United could face competition from Premier League rivals Arsenal in their bid to sign Emi Buendia.

The Whites were linked with a move for the Norwich City midfielder prior to the closure of the summer transfer window.

A move never materialised and the Argentine remained in Norfolk, plying his trade in the Championship.

Now, with the January transfer window just a month away from opening, Buendia's name is likely to feature on a number of clubs' shortlists.

Our colleagues at football.london understand that Arsenal have not made contact with Norwich for Buendia.

They claim that any move next month would be 'dependent' on the Championship side - indicating that he does not figure near the top of Mike Arteta's shortlist.

That could well boost Leeds' chances of signing the 23-year-old.

Buendia played a major role in the Canaries' promotion two seasons ago and was a stand-out player in their disappointing Premier League campaign last season as he provided a creditable seven assists.

He is under contract at City until 2024 so any clubs tracking him are likely to have to fork out a sizeable fee but the Whites would of course be able to offer him Premier League football.

And Buendia may be tempted by the chance to work under his compatriot, Whites' boss Marcelo Bielsa - a big attraction for many players.

A source close to the player told football.london that Buendia is "focused on Norwich and getting promoted" but refused to rule out a possible January move saying that "it depends on Norwich".

The January transfer window opens on January 2, 2021 and closes on February 1 at 11pm.
