Leeds United receive Lucas Vazquez boost as Jack Harrison responds to Rio Ferdinand message

Here is your Leeds United morning digest on Thursday, January 28.

Whites handed Vazquez boost

Contract talks between Real Madrid and Lucas Vazquez have come to a stop, amid links to Leeds, according to AS.

Vazquez is due to become a free agent in the summer with his contract in the Spanish capital set to come to an end.

The report from Spain has suggested that the versatile Madrid man is not convinced by the offer on the table at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The Daily Mail are reporting that the Whites are watching developments closely regarding the 29-year-old's contractual negotiations.

It has been claimed that some at the Bernabeu feel as if Zinedine Zidane would be better moving Vazquez on and bringing in a younger replacement.

Did Leeds United miss Klich against Newcastle?

Bielsa's big calls vs Newcastle

Marcelo Bielsa made two big calls on Tuesday evening in Leeds' 2-1 win against Newcastle United.

Mateusz Klich and Tyler Roberts came onto the pitch at different points in the second-half, which eventually proved to be the difference.

The Magpies applied much more pressure in the second period after a rather dismal first-half from the hosts at St James' Park.

Noticing this, Bielsa made two big calls - bringing Klich on in the 56th minute and then Roberts just four minutes later.

There was no waiting around or caution from the Argentine as he identified that changes had to be made for his team's sake - and that's what he did.

Due to Diego Llorente going off with an injury in the first-half, Leeds were unable to make any more substitutions with 30 minutes remaining.

It's the knife-edge that Bielsa wants and it's once again proven to work.

Harrison responds to Ferdinand message

Rio Ferdinand lauded Jack Harrison for his second-half winner against Newcastle on Tuesday evening, and the attacker has now responded.

Harrison won the game for Leeds after a fine ball from Raphinha found the ex-Manchester City man, who found the far corner with the outside of his left foot.

Ferdinand said on BT Sport: “A great ball from Raphinha, all the space in the world (for Harrison). No one around him, marking him.

"That’s a paint brush of a left foot there... just guides it into the far corner.

“A fantastic strike from Harrison, who I think has been a breath of fresh air since he’s come up.

"He’s been one of their star men for Leeds this season."

Seeing BT Sport posting this quote on social media, Harrison shared it to his Instagram story, tagging Ferdinand, and putting the raising hands emoji.
