Leeds United starlet Jordan Stevens has completed a season-long loan move to Swindon Town for the 2020/21 campaign.
Stevens, who has featured six times for the first team with five of those coming last season, moves to the newly-promoted League One outfit after Marcelo Bielsa opted to consider the short-term futures of a host of United's youngsters in the wake of the Carabao Cup defeat to Hull City.
Leeds' penalty shootout defeat to the Tigers effectively dented the hopes of the clutch of youngsters who appeared in the Carabao Cup fixture receiving first-team minutes this season and Bielsa was vocal in suggesting he would look to find them loan spells to further their footballing education.
“All the players who won’t have a chance in the first team, we will try to give an option for them to out on loan,” Bielsa said following the defeat to Hull and ahead of the weekend win over Fulham in the Premier League.
In addition to Stevens, Leif Davis, Bryce Hosannah, Robbie Gotts and Alfie McCalmont are all into their 20s now without any real possibility of first-team football barring an injury crisis.
Robins boss Richie Wellens had been on record as saying a move for Stevens would be concluded when quizzed on his interest earlier this month.
“Jordan Stevens, we’re very close to,” he told BBC Radio Wiltshire.
“I think we’ve more or less done it. Leeds have got an issue in terms of releasing him at the moment because they’re trying to get someone in. And Marcelo Bielsa doesn’t let players out very easily. He is the head of Leeds, and only his say-so will release players.
“We’ve been after him for six or seven weeks. He will join us on the 21st September.”
Stevens could make his debut for Swindon this weekend when they entertain Burton Albion.
