Leeds United players rewarded with special nomination by Premier League Hall of Fame inductee

Leeds United duo Pascal Struijk and Kalvin Phillips have been named in Alan Shearer's Premier League Team of the Week after their sterling defensive performance against Manchester United.

The Whites held free-scoring Man United to a stalemate at Elland Road, ending their arch-rivals' run of five consecutive league wins.

Leeds meanwhile extended their unbeaten run to six matches, their longest such run in the Premier League since March 2002.

Marcelo Bielsa's men also held onto their unique record against the 'Big Six' at Elland Road. They are the only Premier League side to remain unbeaten at home versus so-called Super League clubs this season.

Premier League record goalscorer Alan Shearer was inducted into the division's Hall of Fame this week, along with the likes of Arsenal legend Thierry Henry.

While Henry has embarked on a career in coaching following his retirement from playing, Shearer has gone almost exclusively down the punditry route.

In his capacity as one of the country's leading football pundits, Shearer named his Premier League Team of the Week, listing two Leeds United players.

His selections of Pascal Struijk and Kalvin Phillips are well-deserved after both played starring roles in the 0-0 draw with Man United at the weekend.

Spanish defender Diego Llorente can feel hard done by that he was passed over for this week's accolade given how strong his recent performances have been.

Llorente has started each of Leeds' last nine games which has seen the team win four and draw three.

Kalvin Phillips won all eight of his attempted tackles in the draw with Man United, his highest tally for a single game so far this season.
