Leeds United players' incredible gesture for Louie Jones, 14, who has just weeks left to live

Leeds United players have shown their support for a teenage boy who has just weeks to live.

Louie Jones, 14, was given the devastating news by doctors after an 18-month battle leukaemia.

The brave youngster initially thought he had beaten the disease but in April 2020, he relapsed and was readmitted to hospital to start 12 weeks of intense chemotherapy. He then underwent radiotherapy and a bone marrow transplant.

But tragically, the treatment has not worked and doctors have now given him less than three weeks to live.

His story has seen hundreds of LeedsLive readers send messages of support to the youngster, who is a huge Leeds United fan.

And after the football club became aware of Louie's heartbreaking story, they have now reached out to the 14-year-old and his family by FaceTiming him.

Louie's cousin Reece Jones said: "I just want to say thank you so much for the love and support towards Louie and our family.

"Louie is still full of life and always laughing and smiling. He has bought himself loads of Lego sets and building them daily. Not the small sets either - 5,000 pieces per kit.

"He thanks you all and can't get over how this many people have helped him out. Leeds United have helped out loads too. 1st team members FaceTimed him, over the money the lad was.

"Thank you all again, words cannot describe how we are feeling."

Stuart Dallas is one of the players Louie had spoken to.

Meanwhile, fans are keeping the teen firmly in their thoughts while cheering on the club.

Fan Kiel Myers said: "Massive love to you Louie. I will be raising a glass for you while watching Saturday's Leeds match."

Denise Cole said: "Keep marching on Louie, we all want to see you win. Support is gathering behind you. Keep being as brave as you have been."

Kimberley Jayne described Louie as an "inspiration".

She said: "This is just heartbreaking. What an inspirational young man Louie is. Sending love and strength to his family."

A GoFundMe page, which has been set up by Reece to make Louie's wish list come true, has seen over £13,000 pledged.

Reece recently held a 24-hour gaming stream on Twitch, before shaving his hair off live on Facebook in solidarity with Louie.

Some of the money will pay for Louie's funeral, while anything left over will be donated to a leukaemia charity.
