Leeds United player ratings vs Luton: Costa, Roberts and Bamford disappoint

Leeds United (4-1-4-1)

1 Illan Meslier - seven

A spectator save for a couple of punches to free-kicks. Claimed a few high balls in the second period. Would need to see a replay of Harry Cornick's goal, but it looked some finish into the top corner. Brilliantly confident with a headed clearance a mile outside his box under pressure.

2 Luke Ayling - six

Took the armband early on after Liam Cooper’s injury. Very vocal and letting all of his team-mates know if he didn’t see them doing their job. Visibly frustrated in the first period. Moved inside to centre-back in the second half and went about his business.

5 Ben White - six

Cool as you like in close quarters, but barely tested by this lot in the first half. Some question marks about his tightness to Cornick for their opener. Seemed like the danger had been snufed out.

6 Liam Cooper © - N/A

Down as early as the seventh minute and would not return to the fray. Not walking at all well as he went down the tunnel.

15 Stuart Dallas - seven

Steady. Saw next to nothing of him overlapping or attacking down the left in the first half. Composed finish to find the equaliser and not a moment too soon.

23 Kalvin Phillips - six

Dropped into defence on several occasions for prolonged periods, perhaps to draw out the Hatters into more advanced positions. A couple of lovely raking balls in the first half. Seemed to have more attacking license than usual in the second half. Set-pieces again a problem.

17 Helder Costa - five

No ideas and no execution to break the banks of five in the first period. Wandered around looking for purpose. Better with more space in the second half, but still not much to get you out of your seat.

43 Mateusz Klich - six

Perhaps the only player finding space and pulling things off to get the team moving into the final third in the first half. The sacrificial lamb for Pablo Hernandez in the second period.

11 Tyler Roberts - four

One burst past two defenders as good as it got in the first half. No magic.

22 Jack Harrison - six

Lots of running and endeavour, but also lost possession a few times. Did make one neat pass between the lines and into the box in the first half. A lot better in the second period. Some terrific wing play, beating men and delivering crosses which were begging to be buried. A physical machine.

9 Patrick Bamford - five

Much like the Cardiff City game, no real service and not much to feed on. Didn't even had the chances to spurn them in the first half. A few near misses in the second half, but one gorgeous Harrison cross stands out as poor in that he didn't even connect with it.

Substitutes

30 Kamil Miazek

3 Barry Douglas

7 Ian Poveda

10 Ezgjan Alioski (on for Berardi h/t) - seven

As with Saturday, made a difference. Adds so much threat with his late arrivals at the back post behind Harrison. Looks confident.

19 Pablo Hernandez (on for Klich 60min) - seven

No match-changing pass you would put on a postcard, but certainly progressed the play through the thirds much better than anyone else managed in the first period.

28 Gaetano Berardi (on for Cooper 12min) - six

Less than a half before he was taken off again. Steady. A few moments which had your heart in your mouth, but came through unscathed.

Gaetano Berardi comes on as a an early sub. Championship - Leeds United v Luton Town - Tuesday 30th June 2020 - Elland Road (Alex Dodd/CameraSport)

34 Pascal Struijk

36 Robbie Gotts

46 Jamie Shackleton (on for Dallas 90+4min) - N/A
