Leeds United player ratings as Blackburn Rovers victory brings Premier League dream ever-closer

Leeds United (4-1-4-1)

1 Illan Meslier - six

Not hugely tested after early warning signs from Blackburn Rovers in the first half. Assertive in coming out of the box for clearances. Rooted to the spot when Adam Armstrong struck.

2 Luke Ayling - seven

Saw much more from him in attack this afternoon. Also very dependable in defence with Joe Rothwell standing out as the hosts' main attacking threat. May have had a goal in the second half with a better back-post header.

5 Ben White - eight

Just reads the game so well, he never has to make a tackle. More than once he read the danger, intercepted it and dribbled away with the ball to trigger a United attack. Armstrong barely got a kick. Will be so comfortable in the Premier League next season.

6 Liam Cooper (c) - seven

A major boost to have him available. Played as the side's free man in defence. Orchestrated play from deep. Linked up well with Meslier, salvaging one or two sloppy passes from goal.

3 Barry Douglas - seven

Looked rusty in the opening 10 minutes and a touch off the pace with Sam Gallagher all over him, but grew into the game. Set-pieces improved when he was on them. No rush for Stuart Dallas if the Scot stays steady like this.

23 Kalvin Phillips - eight

Crushed everything through the middle and didn't give Lewis Holtby or Lewis Travis a kick. Delightful free-kick into the top corner too. The first goal direct from a free-kick since Pablo Hernandez at Burton Albion in December 2017, I am told.

22 Jack Harrison - six

Quiet game in his new role down the right. Energy and work rate there, but only saw the occasional ball into his channel to work with. May have had an assist or two on another day.

43 Mateusz Klich - eight

One of his better days. Ran the game at times. Deserves immense credit for picking Travis's pocket on the opener and then lashed home the third in typical Klich fashion. Was too much for Travis and Bradley Johnson in the centre.

11 Tyler Roberts - six

Another quiet day in the middle for Roberts, though he did win the free-kick for Phillips to score. Not quite getting the space he needs to breathe in that part of the field.

10 Ezgjan Alioski - seven

Deservedly got his chance from the start after excellent cameos in the past week. A threat and backed up what he had been doing from the bench. May have had a brace in the second half if he stayed onside.

9 Patrick Bamford - seven

Took his goal well when presented with a fortuitous chance at short notice. Lead the line and kept the pressure on the centre-backs. Seemed to enjoy himself most when the pressure was off and Blackburn were being carved open at will in the final quarter.

Substitutes

30 Kamil Miazek

7 Ian Poveda

19 Pablo Hernandez (on for Roberts 61min) - seven

As the minutes ticked by the win became more and more secure, relieving more and more pressure. Hernandez had the time and space to paint the pictures he wanted. Deserved an assist or two in his half an hour on the field. Marcelo Bielsa keeping his engine oiled, despite the scoreline.

28 Gaetano Berardi

34 Pascal Struijk

36 Robbie Gotts

40 Leif Davis

46 Jamie Shackleton (on for Klich 88min) - N/A

48 Jordan Stevens
