Leeds United player ratings as Pascal Struijk and Ezgjan Alioski struggle in tight Brighton defeat

Leeds United (4-1-4-1)

13 Kiko Casilla - six

Blameless for the goal and for all of the little chances Brighton seemed to open up, Casilla was not tested too severely. A more vocal presence between the sticks than Illan Meslier has proved.

15 Stuart Dallas - six

Seemed to struggle a little with Alexis Mac Allister in the opening exchanges, but grew to the challenge and proved to be one of United's few decent players going forwards. Linked up well with Jack Harrison down the right.

2 Luke Ayling - five

One of those in the defence who did not cope well with Brighton's agile, quick forwards around the box. Looked too static and switched off for the goal.

6 Liam Cooper (c) - five

Similar to Ayling. It was too easy for Brighton to get in and around the Leeds defence with their one-twos. Big improvement after the break.

10 Ezgjan Alioski - four

Early quality on the overlap from the left with a chance on a plate for Rodrigo, but regressed into that defensive struggler we have seen many times before. Errors and struggled under the high balls.

21 Pascal Struijk - four

Looked lost as Kalvin Phillips's stand-in for long periods of the game. Too many loose passes and not the vision to get the team moving forward. So many passes seemed to go backwards.

22 Jack Harrison - seven

The best attacking outlet on the day. Dribbles were superb, first touch was on point as ever. Just failed to get the returns he deserved because of the struggles others were having. Second-half curler was the closest United came.

20 Rodrigo - five

Looked tired from the get-go and failed miserably with his defensive duties in the middle of the park, where Brighton were running riot. Should have buried that early Alioski cross from the left.

Mateusz Klich, Luke Ayling and Stuart Dallas react (Peter Powell - Pool/Getty Images)

43 Mateusz Klich - five

Never seemed to get going and this bad patch is stretching out into several matches now. Perhaps a week off did not suit him and affected his rhythm.

18 Raphinha - six

Always wants to take risks, which is what Bielsa asks for, but when they don't come off time after time when the opponent is putting you under pressure it becomes frustrating for everyone else. Did have the odd flash which raised you out of your seat, but killer touch did not materialise.

9 Patrick Bamford - five

Well-marshalled by another three-man defence yet again. Isolated and completely absent from some spells in the game. Always asking for it, but coming to strange positions in desperation for a touch and leaving the box devoid of any Leeds presence.

Substitutes

25 Elia Caprile

7 Ian Poveda (on for Raphinha 75min) - six

Busy without cutting through.

11 Tyler Roberts (on for Rodrigo 62min) - seven

The best we have seen from Roberts in nearly a year. Very bright, full of running and quality touches around the box. Always looked close to that killer pass or assist.

14 Diego Llorente

17 Helder Costa

19 Pablo Hernandez (on for Alioski 67min) - six

Did okay in the time he had on the pitch. Linked up moves nicely, but Brighton were defending in numbers.

24 Leif Davis

46 Jamie Shackleton

47 Jack Jenkins
