Ayling and Jansson immense while Alioski frustrates - Leeds United player ratings

Leeds United went three points clear in second place after beating Sheffield Wednesday 1-0 at Elland Road on Saturday afternoon.

Jack Harrison scored the crucial goal in the second half as the Whites took full advantage of Sheffield United's draw at Bramall Lane earlier in the day.

Here are the player ratings out of 10.

Leeds United (4-1-4-1)

33 Kiko Casilla - six

Wayward with one too many of his passes out from the back and misjudged a couple of high balls. One was a free-kick which left his goal gaping and the other he allowed to bounce and concede a corner without any pressure on him.

2 Luke Ayling (c) - eight

The stand-in captain's run of improved performances continued with yet more consistency against the Owls. Very ably got forward down the right and proved useful with his deliveries, a couple of which produced shots on target. Never looked troubled by George Boyd either.

18 Pontus Jansson - eight

Needed a shift from him as the familiar head at the heart of defence following Liam Cooper's stroke of bad fortune. Delivered as a formidable foe who never gave Gary Hooper a sniff after an early one-on-one chance. Did miss one free header in the second half.

28 Gaetano Berardi - seven

Naturally needed time to familiarise himself with the shape and tactics after so long out of the fold from the start, but after a few difficult moments where he seemed out of position the Swiss went from strength to strength, enjoying, and winning, his battle with Steven Fletcher.

10 Ezgjan Alioski - five

Frustratingly careless and lax with possession in the first half and so many simple first touches went astray. Visibly frustrated a few of his team-mates with poor quality in the final third too. Would have been pleased to see Adam Reach go off in the first half.

23 Kalvin Phillips - six

Passing not quite at its best, but did a job spoiling Barry Bannan's space as their deep-lying playmaker.

19 Pablo Hernandez - seven

Does what Hernandez does. Finds space, completes passes, provides solutions to problems created by the opposition, as Marcelo Bielsa would say. Not at divine Hernandez levels, but still the creative fulcrum.

43 Mateusz Klich - six

Kept the team ticking over in the middle of the park as the link between defence and attack. Can see he's itching to score again with a few efforts from the edge of the box when he may have passed in the past.

11 Tyler Roberts - seven

Benefited from Patrick Bamford's deep hold-up play as he ran on into the space created, making problems for the Wednesday defence. Still want to see more venom and a clinical edge to his play around the box, but continues to do the two-thirds before that excellently. Handful for any opponent.

22 Jack Harrison - eight

Right place at the right time to break the deadlock with that trademark work rate leading him from the left flank to the right-sided near post.

9 Patrick Bamford - six

Did all the donkey work in attack, dropped deep to link-up and create space, but didn't quite have the cutting edge or luck of Tuesday night. Does open the door slightly for Kemar Roofe again.

Substitutes

1 Bailey Peacock-Farrell

4 Adam Forshaw (on for Klich 77min) - six

Looked very bright in his cameo, driving from midfield and providing some of the energy and legs Klich may have been struggling to create. Broke through the lines and linked up well with Roofe more than once.

7 Kemar Roofe (on for Bamford 64min) - six

Like Forshaw, Roofe looked bright and sharper than he has done off the bench in the last few. A threat around the box just when tired Wednesday legs didn't want it.

15 Stuart Dallas (on for Harrison 86min) - N/A

Late change to give Harrison a rest.

40 Leif Davis

46 Jamie Shackleton

47 Jack Clarke
