Leeds United player ratings as Stoke City thrashing brings Premier League dream a step closer

Leeds United (4-1-4-1)

1 Illan Meslier - seven

Wasn't given enough work to earn a higher mark. Delivered what is becoming his trademark diving header outside the box to avert danger in the first half. Tidied up where needed after the break to preserve the clean sheet.

2 Luke Ayling - seven

Wears his heart on his sleeve and the frustration with things showed in the first half, but his movement and penetration was so much better than last week against Luton Town. Among those enjoying themselves in the second half when it opened up.

5 Ben White - seven

Like Meslier, did not have to work too hard to keep Sam Vokes and Nick Powell in his back pocket. Rarely saw him get into bother with the ball at his feet in the first half to pick up a yellow, but didn't put a foot wrong thereafter.

6 Liam Cooper © - eight

Seemed to pick up more of the heavy lifting with Vokes in the air and completely dominated him. Led from the rear and smashed him his goal well. Ensured the gulf in pace with Tyrese Campbell did not become a problem on the break for the visitors.

15 Stuart Dallas - seven

Slotted back into the rhythm he has had for so much of this season. Dependable and just as dangerous as the rest of them when the United break is on.

23 Kalvin Phillips - seven

Powell made an effort to put Phillips under the cosh in the opening exchanges, but that idea soon ran out of steam and Phillips had the space to play his game, though it was tough in the first half. Got his hands dirtier in the second period as Stoke pushed up more, but under no duress.

17 Helder Costa - eight

A performance we needed from the returning Portuguese. Excellent touch and run to draw the first-half penalty and then took his chance to make it two soon after the break. Ran Stoke ragged in the second with the space they gave him.

43 Mateusz Klich - seven

A massive penalty to score in the overall scheme of the season, especially after the miss against Derby County earlier this term. A little more under the radar than Saturday, but one of many cogs purring in the machine after the break.

11 Tyler Roberts - six

Had to score that chance with virtually an open goal to aim at. Thankfully it did not come back to haunt the team. Still not quite running things as he would like to be in the middle. The fitter Pablo Hernandez gets the louder the question about switching them.

22 Jack Harrison - eight

Had flashes in the first half with his first touch crucial to unlocking anything against that deep, tight defence. Engine and flair was revving in the second period when it opened up.

9 Patrick Bamford - seven

Finally got the goal he would have wanted from the team's dominance. Ran all day and deserved it.

Substitutes

30 Kamil Miazek

3 Barry Douglas (on for Dallas 75min) - six

Very composed and tidy with the match won. Crucial minutes to keep his engine ticking over.

7 Ian Poveda

10 Ezgjan Alioski (on for Harrison 79min) - N/A

19 Pablo Hernandez (on for Roberts h/t) - eight

Loves it when the match is open like it was. Delightful finish for his goal and some many tricks and killer balls besides.

28 Gaetano Berardi (on for Cooper 83min) - N/A

34 Pascal Struijk

46 Jamie Shackleton (on for Klich 78min) - N/A

48 Jordan Stevens
