Leeds United player ratings as Nketiah and Costa inspire late win at Oakwell

Leeds United (4-1-4-1)

13 Kiko Casilla - seven

Possibly made more saves than in the first five games of the season combined. Stood up to everything the hosts could throw at him. One or two nervy moments in the first half when he wandered out of his box in a throwback to the play-offs.

15 Stuart Dallas - seven

Steady by the high standards he has set for himself this season in the first half, but came out of his shell in the second period and really clicked into place down the right flank with Pablo Hernandez ahead of him. Could have had one or two assists on another day. Ably dealt with the physical threat of Mamadou Thiam when he was thrown on.

5 Ben White - seven

Perhaps the most flustered or worked we have seen him so far this season. Mallik Wilks was a nuisance especially, but the loanee still failed to put a foot wrong.

6 Liam Cooper © - seven

Arguably given more of a torrid time by Wilks than he would have liked, but was by no means hanging on for dear life. Pace was an issue, but if he was there to make the tackle, he made it every time.

10 Ezgjan Alioski - six

Much of a muchness. Defended okay and attacked okay. Some frustrating moments in the second half as he committed to more attacks and lacked composure.

23 Kalvin Phillips - seven

Barnsley would have even more joy from their tenacious attacks had it not been for Phillips, who was typically stingy in the middle of the pitch. So steady, so reliable.

19 Pablo Hernandez - five

Nothing like his best, but as ever, he knows that better than anyone and doesn't need to be told. Came inside during the first half looking to pull the strings, but it never happened.

46 Jamie Shackleton - seven

Easily the most effective visiting player during a lacklustre first half from his team-mates. Drove the team forward from defence and into attack. Found the spaces, passed on the half-turn and always seemed to make himself available. Deliciously arced pass in the first half to Bamford should have made for an assist. Lacked some composure around the box with chances in the second period.

43 Mateusz Klich - six

Anonymous in the first half and seemed to be half-a-yard off it in the second when the team needed him to be the shooter on the edge of the box. Decision making not always first rate around the box. Scored the cheeky penalty we all knew he was capable of.

22 Jack Harrison - four

One of those afternoons which see him hauled off at the break. Mind seems to be working faster than his body at times with the things he tries.

9 Patrick Bamford - six

Plenty of chances for the striker, but finishing was not there. Isolated for long periods of the first half. Had a tasty battle with Aapo Halme throughout and came head to head on the hour mark.

Substitutes

1 Illan Meslier

3 Barry Douglas

11 Tyler Roberts

14 Eddie Nketiah (on for Bamford 70min) - eight

The story continues. Even from a free-kick, with his height, he is the man to score the Whites winner. Smashing on the door for a start.

17 Helder Costa (on for Harrison h/t) - seven

Again a massive influence off the bench and has the class to turn a horrible game like this in United's favour.

28 Gaetano Berardi (on for Klich 90+2min) - N/A

36 Robbie Gotts
