How Leeds United's players rated at Arsenal as Meslier and Harrison shine

Leeds United (4-1-4-1)

1 Illan Meslier - eight

On this evidence, there will be no issues with using the Frenchman if Kiko Casilla does come to face any kind of ban. Very tidy with his hands and his feet. Did not look overawed by the occasion and blameless for the opening goal. Excellent later stop to deny Gabriel Martinelli.

2 Luke Ayling © - eight

As with many of the team, he was excellent in the first half, dominating his area of the pitch and the opposition half, but felt the full effect of the Arsenal resurgence in the second period.

5 Ben White - seven

Much more like his normal self in the first half, although it would be a stretch to suggest Alexandre Lacazette caused him a lot of issues. Second half was different and the Frenchman put himself about a lot more.

28 Gaetano Berardi - six

Tidy and unspectacular in the first half, but found his limitations exposed at times in the second half. A couple of poor decisions led to the Arsenal goal.

3 Barry Douglas - seven

Very solid return to the starting line-up. Linked up nicely in attack down the left flank with Ezgjan Alioski. No sign of tiredness or poor conditioning.

23 Kalvin Phillips - eight

Mesut Ozil was a spectator in the first half an it was easy to forget he was even on the pitch. That was largely due to the performance of Phillips, who broke down plenty of Arsenal attacks if they came.

22 Jack Harrison - nine

Extraordinary performance from the winger, who did not deserve to be on the losing team. Seemed to be everywhere his team needed him to be. Terrorised the Arsenal defence with his bursts of speed and dribbling. Could have had a hat-trick of his own on another night.

43 Mateusz Klich - eight

Rolling back the months from the Pole. Looked so sprightly and energised. Passes were crucial to unlocking the door on so many occasions. Work rate there, as ever.

36 Robbie Gotts - six

A steady evening for the debutant, who certainly did not look especially out of place in the first period. May have seen the game get away from him a little when Arsenal turned it up a notch in the second half.

10 Ezgjan Alioski - seven

The irritant United needed him to be across the pitch. May have had a goal or two on another night with his late arrivals at the far post.

9 Patrick Bamford - eight

Hit the bar early in the match for the 'what could have been' moment of the match for the visitors. Link-up play on point and selflessly came deep more than once to build attacks for others to finish. A lot of confidence for the striker at the moment.

Substitutes

13 Kiko Casilla

6 Liam Cooper

15 Stuart Dallas (on for Gotts 60min) - six

Steady and restored some control to the middle of the park, but, again, not his natural position, especially in this company.

17 Helder Costa (on for Alioski 60min) - seven

If the equaliser was going to come, it was going to come from the Portuguese in some guise. Always looked a threat running into the space the hosts offered him. Can see what sort of danger he would wreak in the top flight with time and space.

40 Leif Davis

48 Jordan Stevens (on for Ayling 78min) - N/A

A late introduction for the youngster, who did have time to make a few decent crosses in the final third.

49 Oliver Casey
