Leeds United player ratings as Patrick Bamford puts in epic shift in gritty win over leaders West Brom

Leeds United claimed a hard-fought 1-0 win over West Bromwich Albion on Tuesday evening, with Gjanni Alioski's goal enough to see Marcelo Bielsa's men return to the top of the Championship table.

Here are our player ratings from Elland Road...

Leeds United (4-1-4-1)

13 Kiko Casilla - seven

Amid some uncomfortable headlines pre-match, this was a competent performance from the Spaniard between the sticks. Memorably got down low to his right to dig out a Matheus Pereira effort midway through the second half. Went into full play-off mode in the second half as he came a full 40 yards out of his own goal to clear a long pass forward over the top. Got there, thankfully.

15 Stuart Dallas - eight

Does not stop running. Must be one of the fittest players in the division. Grady Diangana gave him so much to think about, but he was equal to it all. So dependable whenever West Bromwich Albion went down their left flank.

5 Ben White - seven

Completed what must have been first misplaced pass of the season in the first half as the team seemed to shaking out a few of their early nerves, but did not catch the eye after that, which is a good sign for a centre-back. Hal Robson-Kanu did not cause too much grief.

6 Liam Cooper © - six

Limped off with a serious groin injury a little after the half-hour mark. Had coped okay before then. Everyone's fingers are crossed it will not be a lengthy lay-off.

10 Ezgjan Alioski - seven

Eased the pressure around the stadium with a rifled shot, which replays may award to Kyle Bartley as an own goal. Tireless work ethic always made him available to Jack Harrison as a passing option. Kept Matty Phillips, he of nightmares from The Hawthorns, anonymous.

23 Kalvin Phillips - seven

Took a little while to get to grips with Pereira, but once he found his feet it was more of the usually classy stuff we like to say. No firing on all cylinders, but much, much better than Saturday.

17 Helder Costa - seven

Another to up his game from Saturday. Formed a tight unit down the right flank with Dallas and Jamie Shackleton, giving Nathan Ferguson nightmares. Saw a lot more of the pace we have been desperate to see burnt. Generally more effective and dangerous in the final third.

46 Jamie Shackleton - seven

A shame to see him go off at the break after an excellent turn in the first period. Did not allow his height disadvantage to count against him in big battles with Romaine Sawyers and Jake Livermore. Got in behind the West Brom backline with runs from deep aplenty.

43 Mateusz Klich - six

Delightful part he played in the build-up to the opening goal with an instinctive inside, reverse pass from the touchline. Aside from that he was a frustrating figure around the penalty box as he either failed to find a team-mate or deliberately held onto the ball for too long with a greedy shot.

22 Jack Harrison - six

Continues to find excellent positions on the pitch, follow it with great first touch and dribble, but the final, killer act is still missing from his game around the penalty box. So nearly dispossessed before Alioski bailed him out for the goal in a great position.

9 Patrick Bamford - eight

Excellent all-round display from the front man. Really put himself about and did not give the entire backline a moment's rest, almost single-handedly. No goal, but what guts and determination.

Substitutes

30 Kamil Miazek

2 Luke Ayling (on for Roberts 74min) - six

Great to see him back for the first time in nearly five months.

3 Barry Douglas

11 Tyler Roberts (on for Shackleton h/t) - seven

The assumption is he came off with an injury because he was doing excellently in behind Bamford and providing that vital link with midfield. Really exciting to see him back, offering something different.

14 Eddie Nketiah

28 Gaetano Berardi (on for Cooper 34min) - seven

Everything we wanted from our favourite Swiss after seeing the captain go off. Nothing rash, nothing too studdy. Steady and calm.

47 Jack Clarke
