Leeds United pick up on 'saltiness' in tweets from Watford's official account during U23s clash

It was an eventful evening at Elland Road last night, as .

Yet it wasn't just the return of Luke Ayling and goals from Tyler Roberts and Eddie Nketiah that got the fans talking. Over on social media tweets from the opposition's main club account seemed to be getting a little 'salty', or at least that was the view of Whites supporters, and in fact Leeds United themselves.

It is no secret that the U23s competition is an integral part of Marcelo Bielsa's regime for players returning from injury. Indeed Ayling's inclusion in the side was a signal that he could be back on the bench and competing for that starting XI slot at right-back very soon.

Other players on the fringe of that Championship starting XI are often given a run-out to keep them fit - the likes of Eddie Nketiiah, Barry Douglas and Gaetano Berardi are an example of that.

But as the goals kept coming, so too did the tweets, and hint of 'bitterness' picked up by the fans regarding the side's team selection...

It began at half-time, with Leeds 3-0 to the good - Watford here making it clear that Eddie did indeed score against Barnsley on Sunday.

Three goals later, the 'saltiness' was back again. This time Watford reminding fans of how many first-team appearances Ayling has made for Leeds. And Leeds United didn't hesitate to respond!

Then at full-time, not just a defeat to Leeds United - a defeat to an 'experienced' Leeds United side.

Premier League Watford seemingly unhappy then, to see their unbeaten U23s side outclassed at Elland Road.
