Leeds United owner Andrea Radrizzani makes Serie A club takeover admission

Leeds United chairman Andrea Radrizzani has admitted he submitted an offer to buy Serie A side Salernitana in the past. Radrizzani has previously spoke of his intentions to purchase a second football club though has not had any success as of yet.

Salernitana were instead sold to another Italian businessman Danilo Iervolino, who completed his purchase of the club in January earlier this year just minutes before the deadline which allowed them to stay in Serie A. Radrizzani, meanwhile, is coming up to six years at Leeds next month; a period in which he has certainly overseen some good times and bad.

He has helped take Leeds back to the Premier League after a 16-year absence but their struggles over the last 18 months has given Radrizzani food for though in terms of how far he can take the club. Speaking to Corriere Della Sera, though, Radrizzani spoke of his Salernitana failure and his current thoughts on the ownership situation at Leeds.

"More than you think. We made an offer for Salernitana, but never received a response. However, I'm happy for the fans, now they have a very good owner, Danilo Iervolino: a serious businessman who is doing well with excellent results.

"Now let's look around. We are considering investment opportunities in some Italian teams with the 49ers and other important partners. As partners in Leeds with the 49ers we have reached the end of the cycle and have shown that we know how to create value.

"Now a new phase is opening with new targets, accompanied by the interest of family offices and private equity who want to invest with us."
