Leeds United outcast set to return to club after failure to secure transfer agreement

Pawel Cibicki will return to Leeds United and will not be continuing with Swedish side IF Elfsborg, the club confirmed.

The 25-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan in his homeland and it was a move that was seen as a significant coup for the club and opened the door for a permanent move.

Elfsborg were keen on bringing Cibicki to the club on a permanent basis this summer but appear to have given up their pursuit, with the club confirming he will return to Elland Road.

“We have not been able to find a solution for a continuation, which means that Pawel returns to England tomorrow. We thank Pawel for this time and wish him all the best," club director Stefan Andreasson said.

Cibicki scored five goals and contributed a further assist in 14 appearances for the Swedish side last season and the reasons behind the collapse of a transfer have not been made clear.

Having made just seven league appearances for Leeds since joining the club in 2017 from Malmo, and completing two loan spells in that stint, it is unlikely that the forward will be a part of Marcelo Bielsa's first-team next term.

Negotiations with Elfsborg, or other interested parties, could continue in the final weeks of the transfer window and Leeds will have until the end of August to negotiate a departure, as the window on the continent runs for longer than the Championship's.
