Leeds United out to deny pundits and super computer prediction against Tottenham

Leeds United will be looking to get back to winning ways this afternoon when they host Tottenham Hostpur at Elland Road.

Last weekend saw a six-match unbeaten run come to an end with a 2-0 defeat at Brighton & Hove Albion and the Whites face a tough test against Harry Kane and company today, as Spurs look to keep their fading top-four hopes alive.

According to data scientists FiveThirtyEight, Marcelo Bielsa' side have just a 31 per cent chance of taking all three points at Elland Road, while Ryan Mason's side have a 45 per cent chance. The American polling firm rates the draw as a 24 per cent chance.

When it comes to pundits, there is more of the same.

Mark Lawrenson is predicting a 2-0 home defeat for Bielsa's side.

"Leeds were pretty poor in their defeat at Brighton last week when they missed injured duo Kalvin Phillips and Raphinha," he posts on the BBC.

"Both of them are doubts for this game and it would definitely mean advantage to Tottenham if they miss out again.

"I fancy Harry Kane and Son Heung-min to cause Leeds plenty of problems, and Spurs to leave with the points."

Former England international Michael Owen also sees a Spurs win, backing a 2-1 scoreline in his BetVictor column.

"Now a couple of games in, it looks like Ryan Mason has removed the shackles and is prepared to throw caution to the wind," he says. "That said, this is his first match away from home in the Premier League, so it will be interesting to see if he continues with these tactics.

"If he does, we could be in for an entertaining affair. There’s no doubt that Elland Road is a tough place to go, however, if Tottenham pick up where they left off against Sheffield United, I think they’ll win."

We'll leave it to former Leeds midfielder Vinnie Jones to offer a more optimistic outlook, as he is backing a Leeds United win in his weekly round of predictions.

The match is a 12.30pm kick-off at Elland Road.
