Leeds United news as Whites star's deadline day exit 'purposely' blocked by loan club

Here are your Leeds United evening headlines on Wednesday, February 1.

Leeds United star's deadline day exit 'purposely' blocked by loan club

Leeds United midfielder Mateusz Bogusz reportedly had his move to LAFC blocked by his current loan club Ibiza after the La Liga 2 side refused to co-operate in the deal.

The 21-year-old has been at Ibiza on loan from Elland Road for two seasons but wanted a move to the MLS side in the January transfer window - a move that the Whites are believed to have greenlit.

However, according to WP SportoweFakty journalist Piotr Koźmiński, Ibiza ‘blocked the transfer’ of Bogusz to the US last night despite the negotiations between the clubs having already been sorted.

The caption reads: "Everything indicates that Ibiza finally blocked the transfer. The terms were already set, Leeds gave the green light, the Americans wanted it, but the Spaniards "laid down" the deal."

Leeds United loanee Joe Gelhardt under pressure as Sunderland fail to add new forward

Leeds United youngster Joe Gelhardt will be Sunderland's sole striker for the remainder of the season after the Black Cats failed to sign another forward on deadline day in their battle for promotion from the Championship.

Gelhardt left Elland Road in a bid to get some vital first-team action to aid his development. What he was surely not expecting however was to find himself as the only viable centre-forward at his temporary side.

The 21-year-old was cup-tied for the Black Cats' FA Cup fourth round draw against Fulham, a game that changed the trajectory of Gelhardt's time in the north east drastically.

How Leeds United's relegation rivals have strengthened over the January window

With their January transfer window dealings all but finished, Leeds United's executives have done well to bolster manager Jesse Marsch's squad for the second half of the season.

Having already added nine players in the summer window, January arrivals Max Wober, Georginio Rutter, Weston McKennie and Diogo Monteiro are all sure to make an impact at Elland Road under the American.

However, Leeds aren't the only side in the Premier League vying for their survival as plenty of clubs are trying to keep their status in the top-flight, with just six points separating bottom-of-the-league Southampton and 13th-placed Nottingham Forest.

Here's how each of Leeds United's relegation rivals have strengthened their squads over the past month.
