Leeds United news as Whites 'reach agreement' to sign highly sought after midfielder

A look at the latest Leeds United morning headlines on Monday, May 8.

Whites reach 'full agreement with teenage sensation'

Football Insider claims Leeds United have reached a full agreement with Hamilton for teenage midfielder Josh McDonald. The Whites are said to have beaten Rangers to the signing of the Scottish youth international.

The report claims a deal in the region of £150,000 has been agreed, which would see McDonald initially start a scholarship at Thorp Arch, which will be converted into a professional deal.

The 16-year-old is said to have been at Elland Road last week to put the finishing touches on his deal.

Micah Richards blasts Leeds United recruitment and lack of 'direction'

Micah Richards has criticised Leeds United's recruitment after they were plunged further into relegation trouble at Bournemouth last Sunday.

The Whites were defeated 4-1 on the South Coast in a game where five of the club's promotion winning team were named in the starting XI. The Whites did improve in Saturday's 2-1 defeat at Man City, in what was Sam Allardyce's first game in charge, but know they will fall into the Premier League's relegation zone if Nottingham Forest avoid defeat at home to Southampton this evening.

Leeds have spent big money on players in the last few months but too many of those have failed to make an impact, which has ultimately led to Victor Orta losing his job on Tuesday.

£35 million Georginio Rutter failed to get off the bench for the third successive match, while other expensive additions Brenden Aaronson, Rodrigo Moreno and Junior Firpo were also given watching briefs. Speaking on the Football Daily Podcast, Richards blasted the club's recruitment strategy and believes the club's lack of direction could see them relegated.

Weston McKennie's Leeds United loan branded as a 'failure' by ex-USA international

Weston McKennie's loan spell at Leeds United has been described as a "failure" by former USA international Alexi Lalas.

The 24-year-old has struggled in the Premier League since joining on loan from Juventus in January. Leeds have the option of converting his loan into a permanent deal for a fee in the region of £30 million, although that appears highly unlikely considering his disappointing form.

McKennie has racked up 15 appearances, and six yellow cards for Leeds, and has been unable to register a single goal or assist.

Sam Allardyce told he must must immediately reverse Jesse Marsch transfer mistake

Former England international Trevor Sinclair has told new Leeds United manager Sam Allardyce that he should try to bring back loanee Daniel James in order to help them stay in the Premier League.

The Whites sent out the Welsh international on loan to Fulham at the start of September last year, but the 25-year-old hasn't had the best start to life at Craven Cottage.

Despite that, his goal and assist against Everton a few weeks ago highlighted he still has what it takes after being told he was surplus by Jesse Marsch - who left Elland Road back in February.
