Leeds United news as Whites midfielder 'set' for loan move, Brazil World Cup target profiled

Here are your latest Leeds United morning headlines for Friday, December 2.

Alfie McCalmont set for loan move

Leeds United midfielder Alfie McCalmont is reportedly set to leave Elland Road on loan in January, according to a report.

Leeds All Over claim that the 22-year-old has attracted interest from Scottish outfit St Mirren, who are managed by former Morecambe boss Stephen Robinson.

McCalmont played under Robinson during his season-long loan at Morecambe last term. He played 31 times for the Shrimps across all competitions, after amassing 39 games on loan at Oldham Athletic during the previous season.

He has been featuring for the U21s during the current campaign, and last played for the first team in a League Cup tie against Stoke City in August 2019.

In-demand Brazil striker Pedro profiled amid report of Leeds United World Cup 'due diligence'

Leeds United have once again been linked with a move for Brazilian striker Pedro. The Whites have reportedly done their due diligence on the 25-year-old, who is currently at the World Cup with his country, according to CBS journalist Ben Jacobs.

Pedro came through the youth set-up at Brazilian side Fluminense, scoring an impressive 20 goals in 58 games. This run of form caught the eye of Serie A side Fiorentina, who he joined in 2019.

However, the Brazilian struggled to adapt to life in Italy, managing just four senior appearances and was unable to find the back of the net. He was sent on loan to Flamengo in 2020 - scoring an impressive 18 goals in 45 appearances before making the move a permanent one.

Kalvin Phillips' Man City success route plotted as De Bruyne and Gundogan claim ends transfer talk

Few Leeds United supporters had any complaints when Kalvin Phillips left Elland Road to join Manchester City this summer. While there may have been question marks surrounding the fee Pep Guardiola's side paid for the midfielder, the Whites' faithful knew it was time for the 26-year-old to test himself against some of the best in the world.

Phillips was one of, if not the standout performer for Leeds during his final few seasons with the club. The transition from bit part academy player to midfield general under Marcelo Bielsa is one of the feel good stories to come out of Thorp Arch.

However, the move to the Premier League Champions has been a difficult one. Despite winning England's Player of The Year after a stellar EURO 2020, injuries plagued his final year with Leeds and those problems have carried on at The Etihad.
